FOFI Inc. Scholarship Programs
Scholarship Program for OFW Dependents/under-privileged Filipino youth
A scholarship program is extended to the immediate descendants of
especially, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs or OCWs), and underprivileged
Filipino youth who intend to pursue courses in the priority fields
of Science, Technology, Agriculture and the Arts.
Number of Available Slots
* Number of slots varies depending on the availability of funds.
General Criteria of Eligibility
The applicant must meet some criteria:
* Exhibit the desire to continue learning between the elementary
and high school grades
* a child of returning OFW/OCW without continuing resources for education
and below 21 years of age
* other children in under-privileged circumstances without access
to resources for education and below 21 years of age
* Filipino citizen with no pending application for citizenship in
any country or dual citizenship
* of good moral character
* applicant is not already/to be a recipient of any scholarship award
* applicant should sustain an average grade of no less than 85% on
his/her last grade
* on a case-to-case basis, applicant may have earned units in prior
schooling but due to financial strains could not continue his/her
studies. In this special case, s/he is interviewed thoroughly by at
least two members of the FOFI Board including the Chairman.
Documentary Requirements
* Accomplished application forms
* 1"x1" ID pictures (2 copies)
* Health certificate attesting to physical fitness of applicant
* In the case of OFW/OCW, Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) or
Certificate of Overseas Employment/Work Permit authenticated by the
Philippine Embassy or Seamen's Service Record Book, Employment Contract
authenticated by the POEA
* Copy of Birth Certificate duly certified by the Local Civil Registrar
* Certificate of Good Moral Character issued by the School Principal/Guidance
Counselor
* Sworn statement that he/she has no pending application for resident
immigrant status from any country and does not have dual citizenship
signed by parents or legal guardians
Application Procedure
Applicant obtains application forms and brochures from the FOFI Office

FOFI will evaluate application including the documentary requirements.
If approved, issue test permit signed to the applicant indicating
test center and time of examination (AM/PM session). If disapproved,
a letter of regret is sent to the applicant indicating reason for
disapproval of application.

Where to File Application and Deadline

Examination Coverage
This is an aptitude test designed to measure abilities that determine
academic success in the different areas, comprising many components:
* Scientific Ability;
* Quantitative Ability;
* Mechanical and Technical Ability;
* Linguistic Ability;
* Working Memory;
* Sensorimotor Ability;
* Verbal & Written Skills & Comprehension;
* Imagination & Creativity;
* Communication Skills;
* Leadership Style;
* Character & Morale;
* Willingness & Drive to Learn;
* Teamwork & Culture.
Date and Venue of Examination
Dates are variable dependent on the applicant’s availability
but can take place on a monthly basis, with a minimum 6 months prior
to the start of the academic year of the educational institution applied
to.
Test Fee
No test fee.
General Criteria for the Selection of Scholars
Awardees are selected based on the following:
* Performance in the National Scholarship Exam administered by DOST-Science
Education Institute; and
* Result of the interview questionnaire conducted by the Regional
OWWA Unit (ROU) Supervisors.
Applicants with their parents or authorized guardian will be interviewed
tested by the Chairman and at least one board member of FOFI prior
to presentation of the candidate to the Scholarship Fund Committee.
Expected Date of Announcement of Selected Scholars
March until April very year, prior to the commencement of the academic
year in the Philippines.
Scholarship Privileges
* Tuition fee and other school fees not to exceed P20,000 per term.
* A monthly stipend of P3,500
* Book Allowance of P1,000 per semester/term
* Clothing Allowance of P500 per semester/term
* For elementary and high school levels, FOFI will consult subject
school for the student’s
requirements, this will vary based on consultations of FOFI with the
school where the
student will enroll.
For Summer Term (if required by the curriculum)
* Actual tuition fee not to exceed P5,000.00 for the term;
* Book Allowance of P500;
* Monthly Allowance of P3,500.
The allotment of fees is flexible depending on the course, level
of study and the circumstances
of student applicant. This is why a thorough interview on the student,
with his/her parent or guardian will be conducted. Thereafter, consultations
with the school where the student will enroll will be done by FOFI
to determine the student’s requirements. All fees will justly
be allotted depending on requirements of the student.
Please be aware FOFI reserves the right to consult with the school
principals and authorities to find out the needs of the student, therefore
fees may vary and will be at the discretion of the Chairman and the
FOFI Board after consultations with the school is done.
Scholarship Obligations
* The awardee shall enroll in a state colleges/universities or private
schools approved by FOFI at a school with duly approved complete curricular
offerings, student must pass the qualifying exam for admission by
the state college/university at which the student will enroll;
* The awardee must maintain the grade requirement of no less than
85% or the equivalent of the program for the continuance of the scholarship
until completion of the course;
* The awardee must sign an agreement that he/she will finish her studies
before marriage. A certain level of commitment on the part of the
student to avail of FOFI Scholarship must be made clear before approval
of the scholarship
* Upon completion of the course of study, the scholar shall render
service in the country on full time basis, preferably along his/her
field of training for a period equal to the number of years he/she
enjoyed the scholarship.
